Mayo One How To Request Service
Local law enforcement officials, firefighter first responders, emergency medical providers and health care professionals can call Mayo Emergency Communications Center at 800-237-6822 (United States only) or 507-255-2808 to request a critical-care transport from the scene of an injury or between health care facilities. The emergency communications specialists follow specific protocols on when to send an emergency medical helicopter.
Because of the quick response time, rapid transport and advanced care available, thousands of lives have been saved since Mayo One began service in 1984. While trauma and motor vehicle crashes that require helicopter transport capture headlines, most Mayo One patients are moved from a rural hospital to a regional medical center for high-level medical care. Mayo One transports patients between medical centers, regardless of the referring or receiving location. Patients at the scene of a trauma or crash are transported to the nearest appropriate facility.
About one-third of Mayo One transports are trauma patients, one-half are cardiac patients, about 5 percent are neonatal and the rest have various medical conditions.
