Emergency Communications Center Staff

Communications technicians are certified as emergency medical dispatchers and emergency medical technicians or the equivalent. They complete a 12-week training program at the Emergency Communications Center (ECC), plus up to 300 hours of specialized training. Additional training is provided for staff in leadership roles.

The Communications technicians are highly trained to provide quality service and arrange cost-effective transportation that meets the patient's needs. Safety and patient care are our highest priorities.

The Emergency Communications Center dispatches:

  • Gold Cross, advanced life support ground ambulance, from locations in Minnesota and western Wisconsin
  • Gold Cross Plus, critical-care ground transport, from base in Mankato, Minn., and Eau Claire, Wis.
  • Mayo One, the emergency medical helicopter based in Rochester, Minn., Eau Claire, Wis., and Mankato, Minn.
  • Mayo MedAir, the air ambulance that flies worldwide
  • Lukes One, an emergency medical helicopter based in Duluth, Minn.
  • Neonatal and pediatric specialty team transports, as determined by patient age/condition by air and ground.

The ECC utilizes RightCad dispatch computer system. The dispatchers activate the field staff via radio, alpha-numeric paging and communicate through Nomad system in the vehicles. ECC can monitor the location of the units throughout the process of the call.
